About Fiona...

Fiona Leighton has worked in a variety of roles in the health and disability sector for nearly 30 years.

She began her career as a nurse aide and after registering as a nurse she then went on to work in acute medical, surgical and psychiatric settings.  Her position as a hospital-based case manager for ACC in the mid‑90’s was the catalyst for a focus since that time on work in the rehabilitation field.  She has nursed in a rehabilitation unit for people with traumatic brain injuries, coordinated a multidisciplinary team providing rehabilitation services to people with arthritis and musculoskeletal problems, and within a vocational rehabilitation setting.

Fiona is currently contracted as a Nurse Tutor and is a Community Educator for Parkinson's Central Plateau. Fiona is or has been involved in a voluntary capacity with other social service and community groups within Rotorua: Age Concern, Brain Injury Association, Rotorua Dog Obedience Club.

Fiona has a keen interest in study for ongoing personal and professional development.  Her qualifications include:

·         Graduate Certificate in Professional Development and Supervision
·         Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation
·         Primary Certificate in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
·         Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing
·         Certificate in Relaxation Massage
·         Certificate in Adult Teaching
·         Accreditation as Lifeline Counsellor
